We are hosting a Patient Abandonment Forum to discuss this growing challenge. A panel of experts from Covenant Health, Sweetwater Hospital Association, Tennova Healthcare, The University of Tennessee Medical Center and TN Department of Human Services - Adult Protective Services will share their experiences and help lead this important discussion. The Building a Bridge to Better Health Coalition meets quarterly on the 4th Thursday of the first month of the quarter (January, April, July, October)
Location To Be Determined Meeting Dates To Be Determined Educational Series
The East Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability and South College School of Pharmacy are partnering to host a monthly educational series for professionals and consumers. The monthly sessions are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month beginning at 1:30pm, at the South College School of Pharmacy, 400 Goody's Lane, Knoxville, TN 37922.

Registration/sign-in begins at 1 pm. Each program begins at 1:30 pm and concludes at 3:00 pm. Prior to each program an announcement describing the topic and the room location on the South College Parkside Campus will be distributed by electronic mail. Scheduled programs are subject to cancellation, change, or rescheduling due to reasons beyond our control, including inclement weather. Should it be necessary to cancel, change, or reschedule a program, every effort will be made to provide notice by electronic mail prior to the program.

- As many as 28 percent of patients offered home health at discharge refuse. Most of them are older adults
- Without these services, older adults’ odds of being readmitted to the hospital within 30 or 60 days double
- Understanding seniors’ reasons for resistance is important to addressing the problem
- Many don’t understand the services offered, who provides them, how long they last and how much they cost
- They are concerned about their independence and see their homes as sanctums (or are self-conscious about hoarding or physical neglect)
- They have unrealistic expectations of recovery
- Their cognition is impaired
